Over the Easter weekend Nathan had to take the dogs to our friend Christine in Denver. She is going to watch them until we get back from our honey moon. So we made a fun road trip out of it. :) Nathan drove from Minnesota to Denver with the dogs. Then I flew into Denver to meet him there. We spent the night at Christine's and then left the next day. We drove up through Wyoming. That is not an interesting drive to say the least! But that is where we first started seeing signs for "Wall Drug." They had the funniest billboard. It was very entertaining. So we decided we should stop and see what this Wall Drug is all about. When we stopped at the gas station in Wyoming we asked the cashier where it was. Her response was "Uhhhh hmmmmmm, I don't know...." That was not very encouraging. So we assumed that maybe the signs where old and just never got taken down.
Finally, we left Wyoming and made our way into South Dakota. Who knew it was so pretty in South Dakota, I sure didn't. There where lots of mountains and forests and SNOW! We saw so many deer on the side of the road and they were so close. Eventually we made it to Mount Rushmore. We even got to see it for free since everything was still closed. ha ha I swear the whole state is closed during the "off" season. Hardly any stores or attractions where open. We did find one souvenir shop open though. :) After a brief stop in the shop we went to the Bed and Breakfast where we were going to stay for the night. It was amazing. It was in the mountains about 20 minutes from Mount Rushmore. Good thing Nathan still had his snow tires on his car, we definitely needed them! The people who owned the B&B are from Sweden and where so nice. We had a really nice room with our own hot tube on the patio outside our room. When we woke up the next morning there were deer and wild turkeys right outside our patio door. Unfortunately, we had to leave early so we missed out on the breakfast. I'm sure it would have been great. That is definitely a place I would want to stay at again. I'm sure it is even more beautiful in the summer.
On our road trip through South Dakota we started seeing signs for Wall Drug again! But this time we saw more of them and more frequently. It was very entertaining. After driving almost half way through South Dakota we finally made it to Wall Drug! And it was definitely worth it. Ha ha they had "free ice water" ;) We tried their homemade ice cream which was fantastic. We also got some fun souvenirs there. We got a cup that said "Where in the Heck is Wall Drug!" LOL Most of the attractions they had there were closed for the season, but we would definitely want to go back on this trip when we have a family. Another place we stopped really quick to see was the Corn Palace. It is a building made of all corn products and every year or so they have to rebuild it because of the weather and birds eating the corm. Then finally we made it back to Minnesota just in time to drop me off to the airport to head back to Phoenix.
I had so much fun with Nathan that weekend. I'm so excited for our wedding day in a month so that we can have fun together every weekend!
